Transforming Power

Day four of our 21 days of prayer and fasting brings us to a focus on God’s power. Our Scripture for the day is from 2 Corinthians 4:6-7:

6For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 7But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

The God who was powerful enough to speak everything into existence, has given us grace and forgiveness and a knowledge of his glory through Jesus Christ. This is the Gospel. God has shone light into our dark hearts. He has given us hope and he has brought our eyes to see the face of Jesus!

Verse seven refers to this as a treasure. The light of the gospel that dwells within us is a treasure! These bodies or as Paul refers to them “jars of clay”, may be filled with the cracks and bruises and wounds and pains, but shining through these cracks is the hope that we have in Jesus Christ. The Gospel shines bright.

The Gospel that shines within us is a display of the awesome power that belongs to God; not us. Only God is powerful enough to transform sinful hearts. Only God is powerful enough to conquer death and sin. Only God is powerful enough to hang the stars with his own words. This power lives within us!

As we look at God’s power that changed our lives, let’s not forget the words of Paul in Philippians 4:10 – 10that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.

The power of God can be known and it’s greatest proof of existence is found in the resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection that grants new life to those who forsake all to follow Jesus. Let the power of God shine through your brokenness.
